FULL MOON COFFEE SHOP by Mai Mochizuki

(first published: May 3, 2022; Publisher: Bloomsbury; 368 pages, Paperback)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) And a thousand more stars for how it made me feel!
(finished book: November 8, 2024)

Cozy and romantic autumn vibes

Oh, where do I even begin? Full Moon Coffee Shop is everything I adore about Japanese literature—brimming with a touch of magic, whimsical fairy-tale vibes, and a deep sense of wonder that lingers long after the last page. It feels like the kind of story that finds you exactly when you need it, and for me, that’s exactly what happened. I felt this pull, a nudge—as I call it—and it warmed my heart in the most beautiful way.

First, let’s talk about the foundation of this enchanting story: cats using astrology to guide their human customers. Can you imagine? It seems a bit out there, but then also not: because it’s Japanese literature!
As someone who loves astrology, I was utterly captivated by how the cats’ star chart readings tied directly to the emotional journeys of the characters. It’s such a beautiful, unique premise, and it feels both mystical and profoundly relatable—like the universe itself whispering through the pages.

Full Moon Coffee Shop weaves together three individual stories: a struggling screenwriter searching for inspiration, a romantically conflicted director, and a hairstylist daring to dream big. Each character’s journey is rich and meaningful on its own, but as the threads start to intertwine, the story takes on this harmonious, symphonic quality. Every storyline feels like its own movement in a larger, breathtaking composition.

And speaking of compositions… oh my goodness, the classical music and opera references! Nessun Dorma from Turandot—which I happen to have framed in my kitchen! What are the odds? Like seriously! I know, I know, some of you might call it a coincidence; but I call it synchronicity because I’ve chosen to believe in magic.

That connection alone felt like a personal wink from the universe, as if the book itself knew it was meant for me. I love when that happens—when you feel like the book was written just for you.

The references weren’t just clever; they were deeply moving and added an entirely new layer of depth to the narrative. It’s rare to find a book that can seamlessly blend the enchantment of talking cats with the majesty of classical music, but this one does it with so much grace and heart.

What’s truly magical, though, is how this story seems to speak directly to the reader. For me, there were personal messages hidden within the pages that hit so close to home, I’ve decided to keep them tucked away just for myself. But isn’t that the beauty of a story like this? It doesn’t just tell a tale—it becomes a mirror, reflecting the parts of us we may have forgotten, needed to rediscover, or perhaps were simply waiting to be reminded of.

Full Moon Coffee Shop is charming, profound, and utterly unique. It’s a story about fate, the beauty of being lost and then found (would have been perfect for my October reads: check them out here), and the quiet yet powerful guidance of the stars (and cats!) that help us along the way. If you’re looking for a novel that will tug at your heartstrings, leave you marveling at life’s little synchronicities, and perhaps even renew your belief in a bit of magic, you absolutely need to pick up this book. You will not regret it.

BETTER LEFT UNSENT by Lia Louis

(first published: May 3, 2022; Publisher: Bloomsbury; 365 pages, Kindle Edition)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) And bonus points for making me fall head over heels for every word!
(finished book: November 9, 2024)

Better Left Unsent Book Cover

Well, well, what can I say? Lia Louis , thank you! Better Left Unsent swept me away with its wit, charm, and that perfect dose of emotional depth that makes you laugh, cry, and feel completely understood. I knew I had to read it once I saw it in the bookstore.

The story follows Millie Chandler, who’s spent two years playing it safe after having her heart broken in the most public and humiliating way imaginable. Gosh, I felt for her!
Her defense mechanism? Keeping her thoughts and feelings locked up tight—except in the safety of her drafts folder, where she lets it all out. Sarcastic emails to her boss? Check. Tough-love notes to friends? Double check. And, of course, a thousand-word love letter to her ex—the one who’s now engaged to someone else.

Those emails were supposed to stay hidden forever. But when a work server outage sends every single one of them out into the world, Millie’s carefully constructed walls come crashing down. Or was it really a server outage? Mmmhh… the plot thickens! Find our yourself.

And wow, does Lia Louis know how to build on that chaos! Watching Millie scramble to clean up the mess while coming face-to-face with truths she’s been avoiding was equal parts hilarious, heartbreaking, and so, so satisfying. Louis doesn’t shy away from the messy complexities of life, love, and the fear of vulnerability, and that’s what makes this book feel so incredibly real.

What I absolutely loved was how Millie’s journey wasn’t just about romance (though the romance, oh my heart!). It’s about reconnecting with yourself and facing the parts of your life you’ve swept under the rug. Millie’s emails, while disastrous, are also her ticket to rediscovering her voice, her dreams, and what she truly wants in life. That journey of self-reclamation hit me right in the feels—it was empowering, relatable, and honestly inspiring. And I adored that through all of this mess she found her way to herself, rebuilding her relationships and strengthening them.

And speaking of romance… can we talk about how beautifully Louis handles the love story? It’s tender, complicated, and oh-so-swoon-worthy. The chemistry between Millie and the love interest is electric, but it’s the quieter, more vulnerable moments that made my heart ache in the best way possible. Lia Louis just gets how to write love that feels raw and real, with all the joy and heartbreak that comes with it.

There’s something so magical about a book that makes you feel seen, and Better Left Unsent was exactly that for me. Whether you’re alternating between laughing at Millie’s sharp wit or tearing up over her emotional breakthroughs, you’ll feel like you’re right there with her.

I highly recommend this novel.

THE COLLECTED REGRETS OF CLOVER by Mikki Brammer

(first published: May 3, 2022; Publisher: Bloomsbury; 368 pages, Paperback)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) A transformative, soul-stirring read that will change the way you think about grief, life, and the regrets that shape us.
(finished book: November 10, 2024)

Book: The Collected Regrets by Mikki Brammer

What’s the point of giving others a beautiful goodbye if you can’t create a beautiful life for yourself?

Since childhood, Clover Brooks has always felt more at ease with the dying than the living. After losing her beloved grandfather while she was away, Clover becomes a death doula in New York City, dedicating herself to helping others find peace at the end of their lives. Her work is sacred, yet it leaves her own life starkly solitary. But when the final wishes of a feisty elderly client send her on a road trip to uncover a long-lost love story, Clover is forced to step out of her comfort zone. As she faces unexpected challenges—romance, friendship, and rediscovering her own desires—she must decide if she’s brave enough to create a life as meaningful as the goodbyes she’s helped others achieve.

Where do I even begin with The Collected Regrets of Clover? What a gem! This book completely shattered me in the best way possible, and I mean that with all my heart. From the first page to the very last, it took me on a whirlwind journey through grief, loss, and the deeply human experience of trying to find belonging, and meaning in the wake of it all.

Clover’s work as a death doula was profoundly moving and unexpectedly personal for me. It helped me process my own grief in ways I hadn’t realized I needed—bringing emotions I’d tucked away to the surface and allowing me to truly feel, honor, and make peace with them.

It made me weep, and it made me think about my own life and the griefs I’ve swept under the rug. Clover’s story is a reminder that we all have our own regrets, our own pain, and the most healing thing we can do is finally allow ourselves to feel those emotions—to let them be seen, heard, and honored.

And Clover herself? She’s one of the most relatable, beautifully flawed, and endearing protagonists I’ve met in a long time. Watching her navigate her own hesitations and fears while helping others find peace was inspiring and heartbreaking all at once. I found myself completely invested in her journey—cheering for her, crying with her, and feeling every step of her transformation as if it were my own.

It is such a beautiful reminder that even in the midst of loss, there’s still space for hope, love, and transformation. Mikki Brammer has crafted a masterpiece that doesn’t just tell a story—it touches your soul, I mean it!
If you’ve ever wrestled with grief, questioned your path, or longed for a second chance, this book will speak directly to your heart.

It’s rare that a book can make you face your own vulnerabilities so completely, but The Collected Regrets of Clover did just that. It’s one of those books that stays with you long, long, long after you’ve turned the last page, lingering there in your beautiful heart and mind, allowing you to be messy and completely raw. Trust me when I say it’s transforming you in ways you didn’t expect. This is hands down one of my favorite reads of 2024—what a masterpiece.

ONE DAY IN DECEMBER by Josie Silver

(first published: May 3, 2022; Publisher: Bloomsbury; 368 pages, Paperback)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) A dazzling tale of love, timing, and trusting the universe. I’d easily give it 100 more stars.
(finished book: November 16, 2024)

Book: One Day in December by Josie Silver

What if you fell in love at first sight… but missed your chance to say hello?

Laurie is certain love at first sight doesn’t exist—until one snowy December day when she locks eyes with a stranger through a bus window. In that fleeting moment, she knows he’s the one. But before she can act, the bus pulls away, and he’s gone.

For the next year, Laurie searches for him everywhere, convinced their paths are meant to cross again. Then, fate intervenes in the most unexpected way. Her best friend Sarah introduces her new boyfriend, Jack, and Laurie’s world turns upside down—because it’s him, the man from the bus.

What follows is a decade-long journey through heartbreak, friendship, and love as Laurie, Jack, and Sarah navigate the complexities of life, loyalty, and timing. Spanning ten years, the story unfolds through missed opportunities, life’s twists and turns, and the enduring hope that true love will always find its way. This ten-year timeline makes the novel uniquely compelling, showing how love and life can change, deepen, and surprise us over time; and how love can withstand the test of time!

One of my favorite books of 2024

One Day in December completely swept me off my feet! From the very first page, I was utterly captivated by Laurie and Jack’s story. I mean, honestly, which romantic wouldn’t be? It’s the perfect tale of love, missed chances, second chances, third chances…you get my point: and all the messy, beautiful moments in between.

This book took me on a whirlwind journey of emotions—I’m telling you, hope, heartbreak, joy, and everything else that makes your heart feel alive. I rooted so hard for these two characters that their struggles and triumphs felt like my own. (Have I told you that I love fiction! 🙂 )

What makes this story so unique is how it spans ten years, giving us a beautifully layered and realistic look at the complexities of love, friendship, and timing. Watching Laurie and Jack’s lives intertwine over a decade made the story feel so authentic—like peeking into the lives of old friends.

Laurie’s unwavering belief in love and destiny was so relatable, and Jack’s inner conflict tugged at my heart in ways I didn’t expect. Josie Silver masterfully weaves a tale that’s both bittersweet and deeply romantic, reminding us that life has its own way of working things out, even when the timing feels impossibly wrong. But then I can’t help but wonder—was the timing ever truly wrong, or is it all just part of the beautifully unfolding journey we call life…

This book pulled at my heartstrings in the most unexpected ways. It’s a masterpiece that balances humor, heartbreak, and hope, all wrapped up in the magic of chance encounters and the power of true love. It reminded me to trust life’s twists and turns and that sometimes, what’s meant to be will find its way to us, no matter how long it takes.

I didn’t want this book to end! It gave me those cozy and romantic autumn vibes! It’s truly one of my favorite reads of 2024! If you’re looking for a story that will make you laugh, cry, and believe in the magic of love, One Day in December is an absolute must-read.

THE ROM-COMMERS by Katherine Center

(first published: May 3, 2022; Publisher: Bloomsbury; 368 pages, Paperback)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) This story had me laughing, crying, and rooting for love every step of the way. It’s a rom-com masterpiece that deserves all the stars!
(finished book: November 19, 2024)

The Rom Commers by Katherine Center

The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center was my first experience with her writing, and oh my goodness, I didn’t know what I was walking into. I mean, I heard a lot of praise and that is why I got myself a copy this book but you never know, right?

By the end, I was head over heels in love—with the story, the characters, the humor, and the surprising depth. This book caught me off guard in the best way possible. It’s one of those rare gems that you wish you could read for the first time all over again.

At the heart of this story is Emma Wheeler, a woman who’s spent years carrying an emotional weight that no one her age should have to bear. After a tragic accident took her mother’s life and left her father severely injured, Emma became her father’s primary caregiver and raised her younger sister. For the past decade, she’s put her life on hold—isolating herself in the world of rom-coms as a way to escape the grief, guilt, and overwhelming responsibility. Her dreams of becoming a screenwriter felt like a distant fantasy.

Then, the opportunity of a lifetime comes knocking: Emma is given the chance to rewrite a script for the legendary Charlie Yates, her personal writing idol. She moves to L.A. for six weeks to work on the project, leaving her family behind for the first time in years. It’s a dream come true, but what she doesn’t expect is that Charlie—her hero—is nothing like the man she imagined. He’s a cynical, jaded screenwriter who doesn’t believe in love or rom-coms, and the script he’s written is so bad it might just start the apocalypse.

But Emma isn’t backing down. She has spent so long living in the shadows of grief and guilt that now, for the first time in a long while, she is determined to fight for herself—and for the love story she believes in. As Emma faces the challenges of working with Charlie and navigating their creative clashes, she begins to realize that the love story she’s been writing in her mind may just come true in real life.

This book was everything. I loved how Katherine Center took Emma’s personal struggles—her grief, her isolation, her guilt—and beautifully wove them into her journey of self-discovery and second chances. I rooted for Emma, cheered for her as she stepped into a life she had only dreamed of, and I was right there with her as she learned to let go of the past and embrace a future filled with love, possibility, and new beginnings.

The relationship between Emma and Charlie was pure magic. Their witty banter, creative sparks, and emotional growth made for a story that was both heartfelt and funny. Emma’s journey of letting herself live again—of allowing herself to dream, to take risks, and to experience real love—was so deeply moving.

Katherine Center’s writing is sharp, warm, and oh-so-relatable. She captures the heart of rom-coms while exploring the complexities of grief, guilt, and healing in a way that feels authentic and touching. I loved everything about this novel—the humor, the romance, the depth, and the misunderstandings that turned into beautiful, unexpected outcomes.

This book was a total surprise, and I loved every page of it. It will stay with me long after the last page is turned. And honestly, I’m hoping it gets turned into a movie someday because this story deserves to be shared with the world on the big screen.

CRUEL WINTER WITH YOU by Ali Hazelwood (Novella)

(first published: November 12, 2024; Amazon Original Series ‘Under The Mistletoe Collection #1’: 73 pages, Kindle Edition)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
(finished book: November 19, 2024)

220389458

Cruel Winter with You by Ali Hazelwood is the perfect blend of sweet and swoon-worthy! From the very first page, I was hooked, wrapped up in the wintery storm of emotions, memories, and undeniable chemistry between Jamie and Marc. It’s such a delightful, quick read that had me completely captivated—an unexpected reunion, tension-filled moments, and the slow burn of two people reconnecting after years apart.

Jamie and Marc’s backstory is packed with that delicious tension of a friendship turned complicated, with a dash of regret and longing that really made my heart ache in the best way. The setting—a snowstorm trapping them together—was so cozy and fitting, setting the stage for some seriously heart-flipping moments.

I’ll be honest—I was a bit apprehensive after reading Hazelwood’s last novel Not In Love, which simply wasn’t my jam. But Cruel Winter with You completely won me over and reminded me why I’m such a fan of Hazelwood’s work. This novella is exactly my kind of love story—full of heart, heat, and the perfect amount of tension that builds to a satisfying, swoony ending.

What I loved most about this novella is how Ali Hazelwood weaves humor, heartache, and chemistry into such a compact story, packing it full of emotions I didn’t expect in such a short time. The characters are so relatable, the kind you feel like you’ve known your whole life. Their connection, both in the past and present, is electric, and the tension between them is irresistible.

Cruel Winter with You is the first novella in the Under the Mistletoe collection, and it’s the perfect way to kick off this heartwarming series of November/December romances. It’s an unforgettable winter read that’s as heartwarming as it is steamy, a typical Ali Hazelwood story! I loved it!
She truly knows how to craft the perfect romance, and this novella has made me a true fan of her work once again. I’m definitely hoping for more stories like this from her.

MERRY EVER AFTER by Tessa Bailey (Novella)

(published: November 12, 2024; Amazon Original Series ‘Under The Mistletoe Collection #2’: 59 pages, Kindle Edition)

My rating: ⭐⭐ (2/5)
(finished book: November 20, 2024)

220389465

Merry Ever After is the second novella in the Under the Mistletoe collection, and while I can see its appeal for many, it just wasn’t my personal cup of tea. The premise is sweet—an unlikely romance between a single mom and a quiet, lovable farmer—but unfortunately, the story didn’t quite click for me.

That being said, I have a lot of respect for Tessa Bailey’s writing and her ability to create steamy, heartfelt romances that fans absolutely love. While this novella didn’t do it for me, I can definitely appreciate the charm it has for others, and I’m sure fans of Bailey’s previous works will enjoy it. It’s just one of those stories that wasn’t quite my jam, but I’m excited to see where the rest of the Under the Mistletoe collection goes! More of that in my December book reflections.

WORST WINGMAN EVER by Abby Jimenez (Novella)

(published: January 23, 2024; Amazon Original Series ‘The Improbable Meet-Cute #2’: 61 pages, Kindle Edition)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
(finished book: November 21, 2024)

200034606

Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez is the second novella in The Improbable Meet-Cute series, and wow, what a sweet, heartwarming read! This novella completely charmed me with its heartfelt story and enchanting characters. Abby Jimenez truly is a master of her craft—she has such a way with words that make you feel everything the characters are going through. Her writing is witty, tender, and deeply moving, and Worst Wingman Ever is no exception.

The story follows Holly, who’s dealing with a lot—grieving the impending loss of her grandmother and healing from a tough breakup. Then, a Valentine’s Day card appears on her windshield, but it wasn’t meant for her. What begins as a lighthearted mix-up soon blossoms into something much deeper as Holly and the card’s mysterious sender begin exchanging anonymous notes and small acts of kindness. Their connection grows, but there’s a twist. As the bond between them strengthens, Holly must also face the difficult reality of saying goodbye.

This novella is a delightful, enchanting meet-cute that made me believe in magic, fate, and those little chance encounters that change everything. It’s a beautiful reminder of the power of human connection, especially in the midst of grief and heartache. Abby Jimenez captures all of this with her signature warmth and charm. I’m so glad I picked this one up—it’s a perfect quick read for anyone who believes in second chances and the beauty of unexpected love.

If you’re looking for a feel-good story that’ll tug at your heartstrings and remind you of the magic in everyday moments, Worst Wingman Ever is a must-read!

THE EXCEPTION RULE by Christina Lauren (Novella)

(published: January 23, 2024; Amazon Original Series ‘The Improbable Meet-Cute #1’: 101 pages, Kindle Edition)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
(finished book: November 23, 2024)

200033357

The Exception Rule by Christina Lauren was hands down my favorite novella in The Improbable Meet-Cute series so far! I haven’t finished the entire series yet, but this one definitely stands out as my top pick. Honestly, this story had so much heart and charm that it could have easily been expanded into a full-length romance novel. I adored it so much, and I really hope Christina Lauren decide to turn this into a full-length book because I can already imagine how wonderful it would be!

The dynamic between the two characters was incredibly engaging, and I loved reading the emails they sent each other. There’s something about the back-and-forth of written communication that adds a unique, vivid flavor to the romance—at least that’s my kind of taste. I simply loved it! The way their bond builds over the years through these messages felt so real and sweet—definitely a treat for fans of slow-burn love stories.

What I think I loved most about it is that it wasn’t a ‘falling head over heels’ kind of love story. Instead, it was a love that grew over the span of 10 years—a slow burn, you know? And that makes it so much more wholesome and meaningful, at least to me.

If you’re a fan of witty, swoon-worthy romances with a fresh twist, this novella is an absolute must-read. It’s one of those stories that makes you smile long after you’ve finished it. I’m definitely diving into more Christina Lauren novels in 2025. I love how these two amazing lady writers craft stories that make your heart skip a beat—they’re just that beautiful.

WITH ANY LUCK by Ashley Poston (Novella)

(published: January 23, 2024; Amazon Original Series ‘The Improbable Meet-Cute #5’: 43 pages, Kindle Edition)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
(finished book: November 24, 2024)

200034157

With Any Luck by Ashley Poston is the fifth novella in The Improbable Meet-Cute series, and while it didn’t quite sweep me off my feet the way some of Ashley’s other works have, it was still a delightful read! It’s lighthearted, fun, and filled with the whimsical charm that makes Poston’s books so enjoyable.

In this story, Audrey Love has a quirky and somewhat tragic curse—every person she kisses finds their true love, and it’s never her. She’s always the one before the soulmate. So, when her best friend goes missing right before his Valentine’s Day wedding, Audrey fears the worst: that she kissed him at his bachelor party, unknowingly setting his fate. With the help of the best man, she embarks on a quest to retrace her steps and find the missing groom. Along the way, she might just discover a bit of magic for herself.

With Any Luck is an enchanting and whimsical tale about finding love in the most unexpected of circumstances. While it didn’t have quite the same emotional impact as some of Poston’s other novels, it still captured the charm and magic I’ve come to love in her stories. If you’re a fan of sweet, romantic, and slightly magical rom-coms, this novella will definitely hit the spot! A fun read with all the right touches of romance and whimsy!

ROSIE AND THE DREAMBOAT by Sally Thorne (Novella)

(published: January 23, 2024; Amazon Original Series ‘The Improbable Meet-Cute #3’: 44 pages, Kindle Edition)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
(finished book: November 25, 2024)

200034154

Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne, the third novella in The Improbable Meet-Cute series, was an absolute delight! This was my first experience with a book by Sally Thorne, and I must say, she completely captivated me with this story. It’s the perfect blend of wit, charm, and unexpected romance, making it such a joy to read!

Rosie Whittaker is a hopeful yet hopeless romantic, and her latest adventure starts with a Galentine’s spa day that quickly takes an unexpected turn. When she gets locked inside a flotation tank (classic Rosie moment!), her only interaction is with a dreamy voice on the other side—enter the charming firefighter hero determined to help her out. With nothing to go on but his flirty sense of humor and a voice that could melt anyone’s heart, Rosie starts to wonder… could this be the man she’s waited for her whole life?

This novella is everything you want in a quick, swoony read—fun, heartwarming, and full of surprises. The chemistry between Rosie and her dreamboat is undeniable, and the humor and romance shine through every page. For a novella, this story truly packs a punch, and I loved every moment of it. It’s a perfect reminder that sometimes love can find you in the most unexpected and hilarious ways. If you’re looking for a feel-good romance that’s witty and sweet, Rosie and the Dreamboat is a must-read!

DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON by Jasmine Guillory (Novella)

(published: January 23, 2024; Amazon Original Series ‘The Improbable Meet-Cute #4’: 40 pages, Kindle Edition)

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5/5)
(finished book: November 26, 2024)

200033957

Drop, Cover, and Hold On by Jasmine Guillory is a cozy, delightful, and undeniably charming read that had me hooked from start to finish! This novella is the perfect mix of sexy, sweet, and funny. The dynamic between Daisy and the gruff yet irresistible baker is electric. I absolutely loved how the natural disaster forced them to finally connect, creating the perfect environment for them to drop their guards. Their banter was fantastic, and the slow burn between these two opposites made the payoff so satisfying.

Daisy’s love for rom-coms and the way she eventually discovers that real life can have its own unexpected, delightful moments with the right person was the icing on the cake. The chemistry between the characters was off the charts, and I loved every moment of it.

For me, this was such a fun escape that mixed humor, romance, and a little bit of heart-racing disaster into the perfect formula. If you’re looking for a light, feel-good story that still packs a punch with heat and humor, Drop, Cover, and Hold On is your perfect pick. A definite must-read in the Improbable Meet-Cute series!
