Bonus Chapter: Divine Intervention (this is not on the pod!)
It was Saturday, September 21, 2013. I woke up, feeling feverish and weak in my bones. ‘Probably just a bug.’, I thought to myself. I would get these sudden fevers quite frequently in Kenya. So, I chose not to take the matatu (small bus) to Nairobi to meet my friend at the Westgate mall for coffee and cake. Instead, I opted to stay in bed at my friend’s house in Nakuru, where I spent most of my six-month stay in Kenya, while she was leaving for Nairobi.
The fever got worse and I slept for many hours into the afternoon.
When I woke up, I saw notifications on my phone: people asking me whether I was okay. It took me a moment to wake up, my body was wet from all the sweat, and I felt dizzy and weak.
I was perplexed by the messages, with only one phrase standing out: ‘attack on Westgate mall’. Switching on the TV, I was in disbelief at what unfolded before me.
It was one of Kenya’s most horrible terrorist attacks where 71 people got killed and over 200 people were wounded.
I reached out to my friends in Nairobi to ensure they were safe. Fortunately, they were doing well.
If I hadn’t fallen ill that morning, I would’ve been there.
Why am I telling you this story? You know, there are divine interventions. Something totally out of our control. And we must not intervene!
I felt sad that morning when I couldn’t go, but had to surrender, and accept the change of plans. Sometimes things only make sense in hindsight.
I felt so blessed and grateful that I got sick that day.
It was a miracle.
September 2001
Something similar happened in 2001. I was on a year abroad in the USA during high school. Long story short, I was on the East Coast (Massachusetts and Rhode Island) with my former host family, traveling because of attending a family member’s funeral.
On September 9, 2001, they made the decision to return to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma (their/our home) on September 10, due to my school absences, as they couldn’t bear for me to miss any more days.
They were thinking about taking me to NYC on September 11, 2001. You get where I’m going with this, right?…
We talked about intentionality just recently. 😉
But let me know: Have you encountered similar situations, where you have been divinely protected? I’d love to hear if you wanna share.
You know, miracles aren’t just about protection; they’re also about manifestation. I’ve experienced moments where I’ve seemingly conjured things out of thin air simply by believing in their possibility. Whether it’s a sudden opportunity that arises or a solution to a problem that miraculously presents itself, these moments remind me of the power of faith and intention.
We talked about intentionality just recently. 😉
I’m sure you’ve experienced many of those moments as well. Perhaps now is a perfect opportunity to reflect on them, maybe even jot them down in a journal. It’s a wonderful practice to acknowledge the miracles around us and recognize our own power.
Believing in miracles is about acknowledging our inherent worthiness to receive that which we desire. It’s an act of self love when we believe that we are deserving of blessings and unexpected moments of grace in our lives.
So why not expect the best?!
