BOOK LOVERS by Emily Henry

I’m a huge fan and admirer of Emily Henry’s work. And I love her books, well the ones I’ve read so far. In my rankings, “Happy Place” claims the top spot, followed by “Book Lovers” in second place, and “Beach Read” in third. Her novels bring a breath of fresh air, evoking a mix of excitement and joy, along with deep emotions, making my reading experiences truly special. Emily Henry’s brilliance shines through in her writing, which comes as no surprise considering her popularity. Her worldwide success truly speaks volumes.
This book is perfect for a book lover like me. It was also quite surprising to come across the fictional, fictional (yes: double fictional) character Nadine Winters. Even though the character was depicted somewhat negatively, I found it quite intriguing to see my name mentioned so frequently which doesn’t happen often let me tell you that. It’s not a very common name. But let’s delve into that a bit further down the line.
Nora & Charlie: From Rivals to Lovers
One of the best tropes in the world of romance novels is when enemies become friends, become lovers. Don’t you agree?! It always works, doesn’t it? Like ALWAYS. I won’t get tired of reading these types of novels. Even though I’m aware that the protagonists will eventually find courage to conquer their inner struggles and fears, uniting as lovers in the end, the story never fails to captivate me. NEVER!
Nora Stephens is a fierce and ambitious literary agent who lives and breathes the bustling city life. She’s the best in her field. One could say in a cut-throat kind of style. Well, that’s how she got to where she is now. And she’s passionate about her job and does everything for her clients: she gets the best deals for them, but is there ever a minute that she takes off for herself? How about some boundaries, Nora? A vacation maybe…?
She’s got the money, the apartment, the career: one thing, though, Nora is not so good at is love, the romantic kind of love.
After a particularly intense breakup years ago, she built up walls to protect herself. And since then, she has avoided getting emotionally close to anyone as she sees vulnerability as too risky. I think we can all sympathize with that in one way or another. And trust me if you grab a copy of this book and get to the part how she got dumped you would totally understand why she never really recovered from that.
But how much does she let the ghosts of the past direct her life? Will she learn how to trust again? Well, I guess if you’re reading this you already know. Of course there has to be something that changes the trajectory.
And this is where her little sister Libby comes in; worried about her sister’s life style, Libby has the perfect idea to get Nora out of workaholic mode by convincing her to spend some quality sister time away from the city in a quaint town straight out of a romance novel called Sunshine Falls, in North Carolina, far away from bustling NYC.
And this is where Nora meets Charlie Lastra again, an editor from the city whom she doesn’t particularly like. What does her nemesis do in Sunshine Falls and what are the chances they both meet at this place at the exact same time!?
Oh, the thrill of romance novels! This is where it gets exciting and really juicy. As fate brings them together, they find themselves collaborating on a project. Of course! 😉
That’s the moment when they must confront their past wounds and limitations, and discover how to let their guards down.
How they manage to do that is something I’d love for you to explore, as I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise. But trust me it’s a good one!
Much More than a Love Story
Book Lovers is more than just a love story. It’s a celebration of sisterhood, self-discovery, and the power of stories to shape our lives. Henry’s writing is as sharp as ever, with dialogue that sparkles and prose that flows effortlessly. She has a remarkable talent for blending humor with emotional depth, making you laugh one moment and tugging at your heartstrings the next.
Henry’s love for the written word shines through on every page, making this a must-read for anyone who has ever found solace, joy, or escape in a good (romance) book.

Florence and her Ghost!
The story follows Florence Day, a ghostwriter for a bestselling romance author who has a serious case of writer’s block. (Oh gosh, I know this feeling all too well!)
After a painful breakup, Florence has lost her belief in love and, consequently, her ability to write about it. To make matters worse, her new editor, Benji Andor, refuses to grant her an extension on her latest manuscript. Florence is on the verge of despair when she receives devastating news: her beloved father has passed away. Reluctantly, she returns to her small hometown, a place she left behind years ago, burdened by memories and family expectations.
What makes Florence’s story so captivating is her unique relationship with the supernatural. Love in all its Forms
One of the novel’s greatest strengths is its portrayal of love in all its forms—romantic, familial, and self-love. Florence’s journey is as much about reconnecting with her family and coming to terms with her father’s death as it is about finding love again. The small-town setting, with its quirky characters and close-knit community, adds depth to the story, making Florence’s return home feel like a true emotional homecoming.

And trust me, by the end when the story’s direction was apparent, I released a deep sigh of relief. Thank you so much, Ashely Poston, for this outstanding reading experience!

POV: Those who have had encounters with the supernatural will deeply resonate with this novel, and also feel seen and heard. Let’s make it a natural thing. There’s so much we don’t know and don’t see. Humans can see approximately 0.0035% of the entire electromagnetic spectrum. If we compare the range of the visible spectrum to the full spectrum, the visible light we see is just a tiny fraction of the whole.
Instead of ridiculing those who believe in supernatural occurrences that others may not see or experience (yet 😉), let’s adopt a more open-minded approach. Just because we don’t witness it ourselves doesn’t mean it isn’t real.

On a personal note, I felt with Lucy, I wanted to shake her at times, but I also empathized with her internal conflict. And I think that Fortune depicted Lucy’s inner turmoil very beautifully and vividly—her struggle to navigate her feelings for Felix while supporting her friend creates a richly layered narrative that is both heart-wrenching and hopeful, and shows how so often we tend to overthink and stand in our own way of being happy and fulfilled.
Island Magic
Fortune’s portrayal of the island’s stunning landscape adds a magical quality to the story, with the golden sun and soaring red cliffs serving as a backdrop to Lucy’s journey of self-discovery and romance. The setting is almost a character in its own right, enhancing the novel’s atmosphere and reflecting the characters’ emotional states.
The novel truly shines in its portrayal of complex relationships and the surprising connections that can change everything. I found Felix’s journey from a charming local to someone deeply introspective to be incredibly compelling. His character resonated with me on a personal level because it revealed his vulnerability and struggles—qualities that many men have but often keep hidden. When Felix lets his guard down, it’s genuinely touching and showcases a side of him that’s profoundly beautiful. It’s moments like these that make a woman’s heart fall for a character, and Felix’s depth made me fall for him too.
So no wonder Lucy is falling for him more and more. And as her feelings for Felix deepen, she must confront her own fears and desires, challenged to rethink her approach to love and commitment.
This summer is their chance! They are both at a crossroads where they can either flee from love or embrace it wholeheartedly.
I admire Carley Fortune’s writing which is infused with so much warmth and authenticity. It’s so beautiful!

My heart!!! Praise to this amazing author! I cannot express enough how much I adore Taylor Jenkins Reid’s style of writing.
She has once again proven herself to be a master storyteller with “One True Loves,” a novel that will captivate your heart and linger in your thoughts long after you’ve finished reading. This is a love story like no other—profoundly emotional, richly layered, and beautifully written, it explores the complexity of love, loss, and the choices that shape our lives.
It’s a story of self-discovery and overcoming the hardest of challenges, with a plot that’s as gripping as it is heartbreaking, this book is a must-read for anyone who believes in the power of love to shape and transform our lives. I am a believer!

Emma and Her One True Loves
The premise alone is enough to pull you in!
The story begins with Emma Blair, a young woman who marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse, after they both escape their small Massachusetts hometown to travel the world. Their life together is an adventure filled with love, excitement, and the thrill of exploring new places. Both are perfect for each other!
But everything changes on their first wedding anniversary when Jesse, on an assignment as a travel journalist, goes missing in a helicopter crash over the Pacific Ocean. Emma’s world is shattered, and she’s left to navigate the overwhelming grief of losing the man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with.
As the years pass, Emma slowly pieces her life back together, returning to her hometown and taking over her parents’ bookstore. It’s here that she reconnects with Sam, an old friend from her past who was always a kind and steady presence in her life. With Sam’s support, Emma begins to heal and eventually falls in love again, finding comfort in the stability and warmth he offers. More than just a Choice
Emma’s journey is not just about choosing between two men—it’s about rediscovering who she is and what she wants out of life. The novel takes readers deep into Emma’s internal struggle as she weighs her love for Jesse against the life she’s built with Sam. The tension is palpable as Emma’s emotions swing between the past and the future, each page pulling you deeper into her heart-wrenching dilemma.
Reid doesn’t shy away from the complexities of Emma’s situation—no she goes right into it—, offering no easy answers. Because there is none!!! As a reader you will be challenged a lot.
Reid presents a nuanced portrayal of love in all its forms—passionate, enduring, comforting, and, at times, conflicting.
The novel’s emotional climax comes as Emma makes her choice, a decision that is both inevitable and deeply satisfying. Without giving away too much, it’s a choice that reflects the growth and self-awareness that Emma gains throughout the story, leaving readers with a profound sense of closure.
And personally, I would’ve chosen the same!
A Must Read
“One True Loves” is a deeply moving novel that will make you question what it means to love and be loved, and whether it’s possible to have more than one true love in a lifetime. Taylor Jenkins Reid has crafted a story that is as much about self-discovery as it is about romance, with characters who feel real and a plot that keeps you hooked until the very last page. It’s a book that will break your heart and then gently put it back together, reminding you that love, in all its forms, is always worth fighting for.
This story strongly reminded me of the movie Cast Away with Tom Hanks, but narrated from the perspective of the one left behind. Absolutely brilliant!

A new Hazelwood? I’m all in! So I went to my favorite English bookstore and I bought myself a copy of the book on its release day. I dove right into it.
POV: It is really hard for me to write this. If you’ve read my other Lost In Pages blog posts you know that I’m a fan of Ali Hazelwood. But this time I was not in love with her novel. I don’t even know what to write since I don’t want to come across as mean. I think for a lot of people, this novel worked just fine. And I, too, was super excited about Hazelwood’s first erotic novel. However, while the premise was promising and the writing had its moments for sure because: Hazelwood!, the execution didn’t fully capture the emotional connection I was looking for.
Ali Hazelwood’s Not in Love marks her venture into erotic romance,and I was so excited for this one! She brings readers a steamy tale of forbidden attraction and high-stakes business. While the novel has garnered positive feedback from many, my own experience was unfortunately less satisfying. Here’s a closer look at the story and why it didn’t quite resonate with me.
Rue and Eli: A Dysfunctional Relationship
Rue Siebert is a biotech engineer at Kline, a start-up making waves in food science. Rue has built a life she’s proud of, complete with financial stability, a close-knit group of friends, and a successful career. But she’s got a lot of trauma to heal from, and things to work through which make her very avoidant of letting people into her life.
Her world is upended when Kline becomes the target of a seemingly hostile takeover led by the irresistibly charming Eli Killgore. Eli, with his magnetic presence and relentless determination, wants to acquire Kline for reasons that are deeply personal, which the reader will find out in the end and also why he’s not the bad guy in this whole drama.
As Eli pushes forward with the takeover, his attention is captivated by Rue—an attraction that is both irresistible and problematic. Their chemistry is irresistable. Despite that, Rue is determined to keep things professional and avoid mixing business with pleasure.
However, the allure between them is undeniable, and soon, their relationship shifts from tension-filled meetings to a secret, no-strings-attached affair. With their futures tied to the fate of their companies, their romance comes with a built-in expiration date: the day one of them emerges victorious in the business battle.
And here’s what I didn’t like:
It’s not the sex scenes. It’s the dysfuncationality. Quite a few sex scenes—and there were a lot, a lot which is to be expected from an erotic novel—seemed very rough and actually quite stressing. I’m not against sex scenes in novels at all, I truly enjoy them, I love them!, but when they turn out to be somewhat on the edge of being unhealthy and trauma-filled, it’s just not my cup of tea.
That’s why I had to take a break from reading it and turned to another book. It took me two weeks to complete this novel because it didn’t captivate me.
Hazelwood’s attempt to blend romance with corporate drama offers some engaging moments, but the novel fell short of my expectations. The chemistry between Rue and Eli is certainly palpable in some way, and their steamy encounters are described with vivid detail which is actually pretty amazing.
And yet, the story struggled to maintain a balance between its erotic elements and the emotional depth I was hoping for. The characters, while very intriguing (because of their dysfunctional behavoir), felt somewhat superficial, and the plot’s focus on the business conflict sometimes overshadowed the development of their relationship.
Some would argue that it is a healing story which I agree it is, but some of it was a bit too disturbing in the way that it was not
But that’s just my impression. All in all it was still an interesting read and Hazelwood truly is a hell of a writer. And I still love her. But just not in love with “Not In Love”!
